ta, ta, tagada ta, tagada tagada tagada
So, with the end of the semester coming, everyone is having their final concerts (concert choir is performing Handel's Messiah with the orchestra on thursday and friday the 7th and 8th at 7:30 pm if anyone is interested). Tonight the prestigious Wind Symphony had theirs. What was the hilight of the whole evening? The 5 selections from Star Wars. And was it watered down at all? Oh no. With the exception of the only string parts being harp and piano, it was pretty much note for note. Being a bunch of music nerds, all of the members of the band have been walking around practicing the tonguing patterns for the beginning of the Emperors march (Darth Vador's theme). It is triple tonguing (for you non musicians, it is pretty hard) except for clarinets who have to do single (because of the speed of the piece, even harder). The whole piece is pretty fast, so to see if I could do the hard cool trick, I tried and somewhat succeeded in the triple tonguing, and now my wind symphony friends hate me for singing the theme all the time. On a side note, the entire piece on a whole kicked some MAJOR boo-tay.
Also, earlier in the evening, the concert band played Sleigh Ride, you know, the one you hear on the radio with the little jazzy bit in the middle and the trumpet horse whinny at the end, and they nailed it. I love college music groups. We so totally rock.
